Hot Air Balloons weren’t the only things in the air Saturday in Lewison/Auburn, hockey returned to Lewiston as the Lewiston MAINEiacs opened their pre-season schedule against the Victoriaville Tigres at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The MAINEiacs sent almost 900 fans home happy with a 5 - 2 victory to open the season.

Even though Francis Beauvillier open the game’s scoring just five minutes into the game, Victoriaville controlled most of the play either way. Beauviller’s goal, with assists from Matthew Bissonnette and Stefan Fournier, put Lewiston up 1 - 0.

The Tigres didn’t waste much time getting even, as Victoriaville’s Chris Doyle put one past MAINEiacs golie Jordan Kennedy 2 minutes later to even things up at one.
Things stayed that way until Tigres forward Carl-Antoine Delisle poked the past past a pile of bodies and Kennedy at 5:34 of the 2nd, to give Victoriaville a 2 - 1 lead. The goal would be the Tigres last of the game.

The 3rd period seemed to be a wake up call offensively for Lewiston, as they scored three unanswered goals.

Sam Henley tied the game at 2 for the MAINEiacs at 7:14 of the 3rd on a low pass from Eitenne Brodeur. Both Dillons made it to the scoresheet as Stefan’s brother and #1 Overall pick, Dillon assisted on Henley’s goal.

The MAINEiacs continued offensive pressure, and took the lead for good 1:40 later as Matthew Bissonnette beat Tigres goalie Jean-Michel Fortier for the 3 - 2 lead. Stefan Fournier got his 2nd point of the night with one assist with Matt Myers getting the other.

The MAINEiacs netted some insurance at 15:07 of the 3rd, as Marc-Antoine Rousseau knocked home a rebound from an Etienne Brodeur shot, for the 4 - 2 lead. Pierre-Olivier Morin got the second assist on the play.

Sam Carrier finished Lewiston’s scoring with an empty netter with 14 seconds to play, to seal the 5 - 2 victory.

The MAINEiacs goaltending impressed all day. Jordan Kennedy started, stopping 18 of 20 shots. Russian Andrey Makarov replaced Kennedy halfway through the 2nd, going the rest of the way.

Makarov came up big a couple times, especially towards the end of the game, as the Tigres pulled the Fortier for the extra attacker. Makarov made a pad stop on his left side, cleared the scrum in his crease, and sprawling, made a body save to keep the 3 goal lead intact for the MAINEiacs.

The MAINEiacs play in the 2nd of the home and home series with Victoriaville at 4PM Sunday afternoon.
