Pirates sign goalie

The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced today that they have signed Jeff Jakaitis to a tryout agreement.

The 27 year-old goaltender was playing for Dayton in the CHL where he appeared in 42 games earning a 22-17-3 record and 2.58 goals against average. The 5-foot-10 Rochester, MN native, who also played with the Worcester Sharks earlier this season (one victory in three games), has also played in 83 career games in the ECHL, 4 in the AHL, and 39 in the Italian Professional League during his professional career. In his four career AHL games (one with the Pirates during the 2008-09 season), Jakaitis is 1-2-1 with a 3.37 goals against average.

The Pirates will be back in action with two games at the Civic Center this weekend. Tonight (Saturday) at 7 p.m. the Bridgeport Sound Tigers come to town. Fans are encouraged to get to the game early as the first 2,000 through the gate will receive a Pirates Team Photo courtesy of Brown Fox Printing. Also, fans can receive two tickets to a future Pirates game by donating a non-perishable food item to the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
