University of Maine junior defenseman Will O'Neill (Salem, Mass.) was named the Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011. O'Neill helped the Black Bears split a pair of games in the 2010 Florida College Classic.
O'Neill returned to the lineup on Dec. 29 against #6 Miami after missing eight games with an injury. He dished out an assist on Maine's lone goal in a 4-1 loss to the RedHawks. He followed that up by recording a pair of assists in Maine's 3-2 win in overtime against Cornell the following night.
For his efforts, O'Neill was named to the 2010 Florida College Classic All-Tournament Team.
O'Neill has seen action in 10 games for the Black Bears this season. He has one goal and seven assists for eight points.
O'Neill and the Black Bears return to action on Saturday, Jan. 8 when they travel to Merrimack for a Hockey East game with the Warriors. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 PM.
