Luke Adam scored two goals and Paul Byron contributed three points on a goal and two assists to lead the Portland Pirates to a 6-2 victory over the Worcester Sharks in an American Hockey League game played this afternoon in front of 2,690 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
T.J. Brennan, Derek Whitmore, and Colin Stuart also scored for the Pirates and Marc-Andre Gragnani registered two assists as Portland raised their record to 35-17-5-2. With the victory, the Pirates improved their American Hockey League best home record to 19-4-4-1 and won their fourth straight against the Sharks.
Sean Sullivan and Dan DaSilva contributed goals for Worcester as their three-game point streak came to an end and their record fell to 27-22-3-8 on the season.
The Pirates got off to a blistering start in the first period, sending three shots past Worcester goaltender Tyson Sexsmith to establish an early 3-0 lead. Adam started the scoring spree early in the first period, capitalizing off a feed from Byron and Mancari at the 1:55 mark. Portland extended their lead to two when Byron sent home his 15th of the season immediately following a faceoff win in the offensive zone, and Brennan scored at 17:57 to cap off the scoring for the period. During the second period the two teams would alternate girls as Sullivan got the Sharks on the board at 9:19, however Whitmore upped the lead back to three on a power-play goal. The scoring would continue with DaSilva beating Jhonas Enroth for his 12th of the season, and Adam earning his second tally of the night with five seconds remaining in the period on a breakaway out of the penalty box. Stuart rounded out the scoring at 12:50 in the third to give the game its final margin.
The Pirates out-shot the Sharks 29-26 as Enroth improved his record to 20-17-2 with 24 saves, and Sexsmith dropped to 1-1-1.

The Pirates will be back in action with two games at the Civic Center this weekend, kicked off on Saturday, March 5th at 7 p.m. when the Bridgeport Sound Tigers come to town.
